Laird Niven, another nice guy, I'm sure. But you are 100% correct about his "deer in the headlights look" he so often gives. I've said many times that a degree in archaeology does not make that person an expert in historical artifacts, knowledgeable in that field yes., but many archaeologists never set foot on a dig. They end up working in a museum, or teaching. What kind of expert witness to an ancient relic are they if they never held one in their hands. I believe Laird Niven is that kind of archaeologist. Maybe well read in historical facts of a certain time period but has no hands-on work in the field. BTW, millions of hobbyists are more experienced archaeologists than the college educated experts.
