When we were kids digging for pirate treasure we would occasionally say, while laughing “We must be close to China by now.”
Some of our holes were really deep. We figured the pirate chest was buried deep, deep because we had yet to find it. Well, I think the Lagina brothers, the two treasure hunters on Oak Island must feel the same way. That’s a mighty deep hole they’ve dug as they search for the elusive, and massive, secreted treasure. It’s so deep they had to bring in drilling experts to build walls inside the hole to keep it from caving in and to keep water out.
The Curse of Oak Island is now in its eleventh season. The only reason why I put myself through the misery of watching that series is to keep updated on where the treasure hunt is progressing. And from what I've witnessed in the new series, the only thing the treasure hunters have done is to bring in more experts in the fields of archaeology, paleontology, mineralogy, geologists, organic chemists, semiotic and coin experts, Professors of Early American history, and Indian Studies, Freemasons, and Masons.
As I’ve said in past articles if it were not for “metal detection expert” Gary “Hey Mate” Drayton locating coins and relics from the past to keep the hoodwinked viewers interested, the show would have collapsed into one of those deep, deep holes their digging.
I’d like to also state again that I am not against the brothers searching for the treasure. What I am against is the exploitation and gaslighting that is helping keep the series alive. The scripting and deceit are beyond tolerable.
There is no treasure of that massive size on that island. If they find one, I will be the first to say publically, “Great for them. I was wrong.”
I think they’ll find China before they find the treasure.
Post your comments. Let me know what you think of the series.

My metal detecting/treasure hunting TV series, “Exploring History’s Treasures” EHT, was the first REAL, reality, show of its kind. There was no scripting, no planting or salting the ground with finds before we dug them. Exploring History’s Treasures can now be viewed here.
As far as I’m concerned they already found a treasure. Someone is bankrolling this endeavor and I’ll bet it isn’t the Lagina’s. They used to drive to the blacksmith to identify the finds but now even he has become a regular face on the show. I commend them for creating a show that may never end. This reminds me of Geraldo Rivera and the opening of Al Capones vault, nothing to see here.
I like that the show is about finding treasure. I read that same article that the brothers read in Readers Digest when I was a kid. I'm just scratching my head raw wondering why nobody is asking if they are having so much trouble digging for the presumably buried treasure with all their highly specialized and expensive equipment how was a ship full of pirates/Navy personal going to get down that deep with nothing special just hand shovels? That is the question that has to be asked.
