Find Treasures Near You
A man using a metal detector located $300,000 worth of Revolutionary War payroll. It was buried by Patriot soldiers before a band of Tories attacked them. All of the Patriots were killed. The battle occurred in an area near where the treasure hunter lived. He researched the story further before setting out to look for the payroll. His research paid off BIGLY.
In a small Midwestern town, a man read a story about a possible buried treasure near his home in an old local history book. The story depicted a wealthy businessman who buried $450,000 in silver certificates. He cached the money inside a cast iron barrel. Then dug a hole and set the barrel inside. The wealthy businessman set a large flat rock over the hole. The treasure hunter found the barrel and the silver certificates just 8 miles from where he lived.
A husband and wife purchased an early 1800’s Colonial home. While remodeling the house, they removed the old pine floors from one of the rooms. Below the floor, they found approximately, $100,00 in gold and silver coins. They dated between 1810 and 1832. Whoever hid the coins put them inside mason jars.
A farmer plowed his field and to his amazement discovered that he scattered hundreds of old coins throughout the field. Apparently, the coins were hidden in a container that had broken open as he was plowing. He sold the coins at an auction. The sold value of the coins was $80,000.
These are just a few stories of people finding treasures on their properties, or close to where they live.
Tips To Use To Locate Buried or Hidden Treasures Near You
To find treasures you do not have to be a professional treasure hunter. But you need to research. It’s true that some individuals, like the husband and wife mentioned above, or that lucky farmer, do have treasures fall into their laps. However, the majority of treasures need to be researched first.
Read old books about your area. Sometimes they mention treasure stories.
Old local newspapers are good leads for treasure stories. Many libraries and local historical societies have old newspapers on microfilm. I have utilized old newspapers to find stories about misers who died leaving behind large sums of money. Also to find stories about bank robberies, outlaw robberies, and mafia crimes where the stolen loot was never recovered.
Ask older men and women of your town if they ever heard of a treasure nearby. They are a wealth of information. I always use the older citizens of a town, village, or city where I am researching as a way to gather information.
Of course, some stories may be fictional. But many treasure stories have proven to be true. And, like the stories in my post, many of the treasures were found close to where the searcher lived.
The treasure may be as small as a “granny cache.” Those are a few coins put inside mason jars that were often hidden in a garden or flower patch by the woman of the house. Or the treasure could be as large as the treasures I wrote about. But rest assured…
There are treasures hidden and or buried near where you live.
